Sunsetters music, written by Blind Man's Book (myself and Eric "Anathema/Archangard" Taylor):

The Mythology of Empathy (Debut album. Tried to make it feel like a debut, too. Rough, got a lot of short repetitive things, it's the Sunsetters still trying to find their sound. No overarching concept; each song is about a different Fear, with tracks 1 and 8 being about EAT. Album cover by Hexillith.)

Ancestor (Later EP. Five tracks, thirty minutes. Concept is a tribute to the Sunsetters' late rhythm guitarist. Slow, atmospheric, noise elements and doom elements. Climaxes with probably one of the more intricate things we've written so far. Roughly about specific Fears that I cannot spoil.)

ORIGINAL POST:
I don't really know where to put this. I feel it needs its own thread, but it's not quite a story so much as it's a...

Well.

I made a song about The Wooden Girl! Been working on it for like a year. I've actually got a number of songs in the works, and I see myself releasing at least a few more like this, but I can only show so much because reasons. But yes, for all intents and purposes this is the Sunsetters.

(To clarify on the Sunsetters, as I don't know if I ever really did, they're a fictional band that appear in my stories a lot (because I feel like there's merit to stories that at least look like they're obsessed with songs, but copyrights mean I had to make my own). Originally their songs were just collections of samples I strung together to turn into songs, but screw that, I like music, I have software, I like writing poetry!

The Sunsetters appear in a number of my canons, and in every one they have a different discography in some way, so there's really a lot of room to make stuff. Mostly I just write lyrics, which you can see in Rapture's fifth draft. But yes, in the future you should start seeing more actual music.)

BUT WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE is that I am throwing the Sunsetters out into the Creative Commons pool. They operate similarly to how Fears operate-- you can do whatever the hell you want with them in your canons. I already play with them a lot, for instance in the Rapture canon their discography is different than in the Genera canon and their member lineups are pretty different too, and none of this necessarily reflects the songs I will write. So I mean. I'd may as well make it official and say anybody can use them. If you want to make music but need a good context, say it's a Sunsetters song! If you just want to write a story revolving around a band but can't think of an entire band, here's one for you!

"Perfection" is also Creative Commons. I mean it's a demo, I wouldn't care if you used it in things anyway, but.. well, I'm clarifying stuff here! As long as OOG that particular recording is credited to me, I don't mind what you do.

But yeah. There's a song for you. About The Wooden Girl, influenced by my own, uh.. life experiences. Repetitive, yes, but hell I stumbled upon the riff and had fun with it. The video also has a Rapture reference in it that I couldn't resist.

Yeah finally got around to listening to it and not bad.

Not entirely sure how it pertains to The Wooden Girl, but I'm undoubtedly just missing something...

The victim in the song is someone who had to do everything perfectly, adhering to unreal standards of perfection by a controlling figure. It may not literally sound like The Wooden Girl, but I wrote it specifically so that you can take it as an angry letter to her.

More Sunsetters stuff! Here, let me just quote Tumblr:

QUOTE
The theme song to the most brutal punch-em-up video game on the Sega Genesis. Play as Joseph Steward as that good ol’ man without a face sends him on wild goose chases, beating up no-good Fear servants. Banned in Australia for having too much bloooooooddddddddddddddd

The Japanese release had to have its ending censored because shotgun suicide was too bruuuutallllllll

The soundtrack caused controversy because it made all the little children’s earrrrs bleeeeeedddddddd and also because it was totally ripped off of the Sunsetters without their corresponding legal consultaaaatioonnnnnnnnnn

UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A unlocks New Game +, EXTRA HARD MODE, letting you play as Matthias, the good cop gonnne baaaaaadddddddddd

(the B A stands for BAD APPLE)

The game was released in 1985, threee yeaaaars before the Genesis evennnn caaaaaame ouuuuutttttttt

The end. That was my newest creepypasta.

The song in question can be found here (and, if you like, downloaded through right-clicking and "save as"): "Hidden in the Trees," Sega Genesis mix. Took me way longer than it should have to have this one ready to show.

1: Note that, for all intents and purposes, right now the credit for the song is "Composed by Jesus Archangard--" though I helped with a bit or two, and I, uh.. did the "mixing," if you can call it that.
2: Note also that this "Sega Genesis mix" has a specific purpose in mind in the near future. It won't be anything you try to guess. But the point here is that this might still be subject to change, and you are hearing it outside its intended context, but that's okay, I really like this new context too.
3: Note, last, in terms of Sunsetters this song fits into Drowning Under the Influence. The entire outro to this piece is technically a separate track, "Memento Mori," but both were conglomerated into this whole-suite track for convenience purposes. And yes, it is indeed a tribute to that Hidden in the Trees.

The code isn't really as important as its content, which states that that Genesis Mix is subject to the Creative Commons Attributions NonCommercial 4.0 International License.

But hey, try this on for size! This one's from the soundtrack to the 1988 video game with the cheesiest title imaginable: EAT OR BE EATEN!

Spoiler (Show/Hide)
In all immersion-breaking seriousness, "Hidden in the Trees" is a demo that we wanted to at least pretty up and make sound nice for you guys, and that latter one is simply titled "Comatose." Bones wrote the former (I wrote the interlude halfway through), and I wrote the latter (somewhat based on a sequence Bones had written). I also did the mastering of both, you could say. Anything Bones writes, I try to disguise and obfuscate for secret reasons. Anything I write? It's fair game. You can use "Comatose" literally however you want to. Make money off of it if you want to.

SUNSETTERS: THE MYTHOLOGY OF EMPATHY

FULL ALBUM

FEATURING NINE SWEET SONGS (in eight tracks)

YOU'VE GOT "DROWNING UNDER THE INFLUENCE," A SHORT PUNK-ISH SONG ABOUT EAT (lyrics inspired by Joyce's "Counterparts")

"BURNING BOOKS," A HARD-HITTING METAL SONG ABOUT THE BLIND MAN

"HIDDEN IN THE TREES / MEMENTO MORI," A TWO-PARTER DEDICATED TO LIZARDBITE'S WONDERFUL BLOG

"PERFECTION," THE HATE-LETTER TO THE WOODEN GIRL-- REIMAGINED! WITH GUITAR SOLOS AND STUFF!

"IS THIS ALL?" BASED ON THE HIT TERRENCE ANATHEMA POEM

"THE LAST SUNSET," THAT ONE DEPRESSING THING BASED ON THE HIT HENRY RUTHERFORD POEM

"RISE OF HER RAIN," TWELVE STRAIGHT MINUTES OF FUCKING EAT PROG, INCLUDING DRONE METAL, TRANCE METAL, CLASSICAL METAL, AND PHIL COLLINS-ERA GENESIS METALLLLL

AND "REVERIE," A DITTY DEDICATED TO THE GROTESQUE TO WRAP IT ALL UPPPPP

Songs written by Eric Taylor and myself. It wound up being more of a collaboration than I expected (I expected him to do most of the work because when this started around three years ago I knew very little about music). There are also lyrics for each song, I wrote them, you can find them in the video descriptions. Album art by the astonishing Hexillith!

...and yes they weren't recorded with real instruments, for that I am very sorry, we intend on getting together and recording them for real at some point but for now we wanted to finally share the fruits of our songwriting labours in a surprisingly good-sounding midi-y format.

SERIOUSLY, ENJOY

I was planning on making a bunch of Sunsetters albums (10, each with 7 songs) and 1 EP (5 songs), but now I'm not so sure what to do anymore. I'm drawn between making a tacky choice by making my own album when someone else already made it, or just giving up a lot of work. I mean, it is his, but I had a bunch of things in mind too. I just don't know.

To quote the first post, because I planned for this very situation:

The Sunsetters music Eric and I just put out is under a specific canon, which we'll call "the Cadence canon." It's, for instance, not the Sunsetters music from Rapture, nor is it the music from Topography Genera (either draft!), though it is based on bits and pieces from all of those. And everyone is welcome to make stuff for their own canons. Their Sunsetters don't even need to be in the same genre.

So ultimately it's up to you. But just know that I accounted for this kind of thing. Because I didn't want to discourage myself from making more "first albums" even though I had specific tracklists mentioned in other stories.

My main concern is that Hexillith, Wiratomkinder, Cadet and LadyOfFear won't want me to use their covers, which I really want to use in my version, for the obvious reason that, well, they're awesome-looking. Hex was there to see my horrible behavior, Lady's probably heard of my awful past, and I don't even know how to talk to Cadet. Wiratom seems nice, but s/he''ll probably say no.

Yeah, the art is the one thing that isn't Creative Commons, so that's a fair concern. I don't think it'd hurt to ask in any of these cases, but your best bet is probably just to find artist friends and get them on board with your ideas. I was incredibly lucky. In fact, when it comes to artistic friends, I think I've been the luckiest person on Earth, and I always cherish them for how generous they've been for my projects.

For some reason, Drowning Under the Influence is the only song which plays for me? When I try the others, I get errors.

Haven't had a chance to check them on YouTube or download them yet; I'll do that when I get home, and update if it's working or not there.
