> "No - tell me everything. Tell me what happened."
"Well, you..." Mary Ellen begins.
Irina cuts her off. "She doesn't need to know right now."
"She has a right to know!" Mary Ellen counters.
"...a right to know what?" You say, a little fearful.
"...here." Mary Ellen hands you a compact. "Take a look at yourself, kid."
You open the compact and look at your face. A shock of white runs through your hair, now, and your right eye, where your face was raked by claws, is now blue-white.
"When you stepped out of the circle, you forcefully separated your own and her souls. But it wasn't a clean break. There's a little of her in you. now. Probably forever. And I'd guess," Mary Ellen begins, looking you in the eye. "You left a bit of yourself in her as well."
She rushes to your bed and throws her arms around you. She kisses you as hard and as passionately as she can. You put your arms carefully around her and kiss back.
In the coming days, you would never have the perfect relationship. But you would endure, and, over time the two of you would come to grow closer.
But that's a story for another day.
"You know," Billy said as he steped up to the Bulldozer's cab. "They used to say this house was haunted."
"Big fuckin' shock." Ed replied. "Look at this piece of shit. It's amazing it's even still here.
"What're they gonna do with this place, anyway?"
"Farmland. Gonna fill it in and pave it over." Ed said. He glanced over to a few of the guys who were moving equipment into the basement. "Shouldn't be too hard. Just make sure to do here and here first."
Ed pointed to a couple of spots on his the chart in front of him. "You got that, Bill."
There was no response. Ed started to turn. "Jesus, what;re you doing, jerking--"
The last thing Ed saw was a grin of large, sharklike teeth, before everything went very red, and then very black.
