So, we've launched Topography Genera and all is well, right? Well, now we need to actually do some posting.

alliterator, I don't know how you're doing your blog, but we need to talk about how you're launching it.

Jane, you and I need to cover the "filler" posts. These are just casual little happy posts of Len and Duchess being all happy and casual, stuff like "I went to the store today and bought a pony, then it ate my brain. Feels good man" or something. We need to develop our characters' personalities by blogging about them during their off-days.

And then we need to cover the actual Fossil posts. I mean.. encyclopedia-esque "THIS IS THE SLENDER MAN, HE CAN HARM YOU" entries. I was actually thinking of having art for every Fear. ^^;; JUST A DOODLE, THOUGH. A doodle. :3 And they wouldn't all be needed at once. One at a time. But Jane, I need you to post an entry basically saying the Genera has decided to "let us post our research about the Fossils, at least until the site's up."

All in all, whoever you are, we need to keep foreshadowing the launch of "the site." I will cover making the actual site. I know just what to do. >w>

..well, okay. You guys are my colleagues, so I need to let you in on what I'm planning. xD; The site is never actually gonna launch. There's gonna be a big build-up to it, but it's gonna get Camper'd. Like the blogs in Jordan Eats. That will be after all the Fossils have been posted, or at least after a certain amount.

I've been thinking of names for the Fossils and I've got some ideas. We might try naming them after corresponding mythological gods/creatures. I have some examples:

* Irkalla (the Archangel)
* Yeth Hound (the Black Dog)
* Samael (the Blind Man)
* Lorelei (the Choir)
* Hrimgrimnir (the Cold Boy)
* Garuda (the Convocation)
* Cronus (the Dying Man)

That's definitely a possibility, but one thing I tend to do is not use the same theme for all my names. For one thing, it makes them all related, and most of the Fears are different species to each other entirely, and we don't really want to imply they're not. And it's kinda more fun to come up with names from all sources. .w.;

I dunno, though. Like I said, it's definitely a possibility.

Okay, I've been thinking about different names. And it would be very interesting of each one came from a different source. So these are the names I like so far:

Fossil-Type HOMUNCULI (Manufactured Newborn)

Fossil-Type TALKY TINA (The Wooden Girl)

Okay, I'm not gonna sugarcoat these.

Fossil-Type REANIMATOR (The Archangel) A little too simple.

Fossil-Type RED DEATH (The Plague Doctor) I LIKE IT. Isn't this a reference to the.. story about the black plague with the play going on and the "red death?"

Fossil-Type PIED PIPER (The Choir) I dunnoooooo. I always thought it'd be more fitting for Archie to be this.

Fossil-Type VASHTA NERADA (The Nightlanders) NONONONONONONONONONONO
ahemahemcough ...no, thank you. :D We can come up with better than that! "SHIFTERS," "DARKNESS HUNTERS," "WALL PEOPLE."

Fossil-Type HITCHCOCK (The Convocation) Leave this one to me; "HITCHCOCK" isn't perfect for them.

Fossil-Type DESTINY (The Blind Man) I like this one's idea, but "Destiny" sounds too.. hippie.

Fossil-Type BIRCHMAN (Slender Man) (this one is yours, Djay) Thank you!

Fossil-Type HOMUNCULI (Manufactured Newborn) It's good, works.

Fossil-Type TALKY TINA (The Wooden Girl) Bah, too mainstream-horror. ..."PROOF OF PURCHASE."

Fossil-Type BAD SEED (The Cold Boy) I dunno.

Fossil-Type TINDALOS HOUND / SMILE DOG (The Black Dog) I like "TINDALOS." Cut out the "hound," let's hint that The Black Dog isn't necessarily a dog. Just like the Tindalos. Besides, I still go by Visitor's theory that The Black Dog is made of men.

Fossil-Type INCUBUS (The Rake) What if this one was "SMILE DOG?" Or just "SMILE?"

Fossil-Type CROOKED HOUSE (The Empty City) I was thinking either "METROPOLIS" (EAT would have given this name, and it would have stuck) or just simply "THERE."

I will try to come up with some more, but I keep forgetting. xD

You shouldn't sugarcoat anything - these are just the first ones I thought of and I realize that most of them are probably terrible. But I like calling the Rake "SMILE."

As for the Empty City, what do you think about calling it "OVER THERE"?

And yes, The Masque of Red Death was a short story by Edgar Allan Poe.

I called the Blind Man Destiny because that's the member of the Endless who is blind and carries around a large book.

"OVER THERE" sounds good. In case you haven't noticed, I try to keep The Empty City either vague or prog-referencing so it's still vague whenever I mention it in a story.

What if The Blind Man was "OVERSEER?" Or "LITERATURE."

Convocation: "ASPIC LARKS." "EARSCREECHERS." "SKYCLOWNS." "SKYFEEDERS."TERMINAL."

The Cold Boy: "TUNDRA." "IRIS." "FORTUNEI."

Will think of more.

I like LARKS for the Convocation. For the Blind Man, how about CATALOGER?

For the Cold Boy...I dunno. Those sound good, but kind of strange. TUNDRA sounds like a landscape, IRIS sounds like it should be for the Eye, and FORTUNEI - that one just sounds kind of weird. I know it comes from the wintercreeper vines, but perhaps we should just call him WINTER?

On the other hand, for the Eye, how about Fossil-Type IRIS?

I was being experimental with Coldy, really. I like to come up with names that only cause more speculation. And TUNDRA was because of.. someone, might have been you, suggesting that The Cold Boy's true form is something far less comprehensible. That, and if The Cold Boy gets you, you're essentially lost in an eternal tundra. That's partly why he's called The Ruin in Rapture.

EDIT: And IRIS for The Eye is a definite possibility. Let's see what other names we can think of first, though. I want to make the Fears memorable.

For the Cold Boy, then, how about GLACIER?

The Ruin, by the way, just sounds cool. Like he is something that will ruin the world or make ruins.

Actually, it reminds me of an A.E. Houseman poem:
The signal-fires of warning.
They blaze, but none regard;
And on through night to morning.
The world runs ruinward.

Edit: I thought of another one for the Choir: ARIA.

And I just thought of one that should have probably been obvious. It may suck, however: Fossil-Type HAMADRYAD (the Wooden Girl).

Cold: GLACIER. Maaayyybe. I dunno. Glaciers aren't very creepy. They're just slow. Maybe, throwing in a musical reference, HAND OF DOOM, or DOOMHAND. Or just DOOM or HAND. Metallica's "Trapped Under Ice" mentions, as the narrator dies frozen in ice, "Hand of doom has a tight grip on me."

Choir: ARIA. Maybe. Other interesting musical names: OSTINATO, VAMP (this is seriously a musical thing, and it's ridiculously common! xD), PASSACAGLIA, FUGUE, CADENZA.

Wooden: HAMADRYAD. ...maaaybe. There's also all those other names on that page. I like MOREA.

PASSACAGLIA

YES. I don't know if you've ever seen the new Battlestar Galactica, but it had some awesome pieces of music, including one titled Passacaglia.

And I just found an interesting word that may work for the Cold Boy: CRYOGENIAN. It means "cold birth" so it could mean "born of cold" or "giving birth to cold."

Yes, and lookit this, that looks so eldritch even though it's not at all. This is why I chose Passacaglia.
