So, as we learned today, I am not good at prog naming. So this thread is for prog name recommendations.

Also: I have plot ideas. And since I don't feel like many two new threads, I shall put them here too.

Plot Idea 1: there are eight higher ups, fitting with the whole 5 & 8 theme. They could refer to themselves as the Ogdoad.

Plot Idea 2: right now, we only have four Topography Genera Centers - North, East, South, and West. But what if there was a secret fifth Center? The Topography Genera Center Zero or the Topography Genera Parallax Center, also called "the Glass Prison." This is where the "White" experiments are taken, where only the higher ups are allowed to observe.

Prog names, I can definitely help with. And I like the idea of eight higher-ups, but I want to help you fine-tune this idea.

I was thinking, maybe, eight higher-ups and five of them are Camper, but no, eight higher-ups is way too small a number.

..unless it was just eight higher-ups in the East branch. Yeah, that could work. We already have three.

Mordecai (TheSomnambulist) is the one assigned to Liquid Len. He's mostly just working under orders, and he is the only one assigned to someone from the beginning, as Liquid Len.. isn't a normal employee.

Blackcap (Parakus) is the one who, when he learns of Duchess' dreams, becomes assigned to her. He is your dictionary "cold and collected villain," very calm and smooth. He basically gets Duchess to be experimented on against her will, with the climax being him getting her into an Op-Salad to get The Grotesque out of her head and into the real world.

Lilith is one you will be expanding upon. Whether she becomes 'assigned' to Doctor Cloud, I dunno, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd recommend making another higher-up who is 'assigned' to him, one who is considerably more malevolent. But it's up to you.

And yeah, five of the eight higher-ups should be Camper. And of course, really fucking advanced Camper, so it's hard to tell. The other three may or may not be corrupt, themselves. The Camper higher-ups, by the way, would be collectively called "The Night Owls," and I think you'll understand my choice of that name.

I don't know if I like the name "Ogduad," though. It's... really unappealing.

As for prog names, I will throw a list out off the top of my head. Any that are currently used, I will put in parentheses. If any interest you, ask me and I will elaborate what the context of the name is. Y'know, so we can.. throw in metaphors and parallels and stuff.

- Jeremy Bender
- Brain Salad Surgery (brain surgery)

Opeth
- Harlequin Forest
- Ghost of Perdition
- Baying of the Hounds

There, I'm stopping for now.

As for "Ad a dglgmut," that is a song about Between the Buried and Me in general, about how they make structure out of sounds that make people cringe, how they turn "noise" into music, madness into method. And I was thinking of all kinds of things to do with this, as for one thing, the name "Ad a dglgmut" makes me think of Lovecraft for some reason. xD My first thought was making EAT Fossil-Type DGLGMUT. But no, EAT isn't quite making structure out of noise.

So maybe Dglgmut would be a fully-artificial creation of the Genera, a bit like Frankenstein's monster or Hodgepodge from Action League NOW!. "PROJECT: AD A DGLGMUT" or "PROJECT: DGLGMUT" sounds cool.

Awesome. Glad you like the eight higher ups idea. Ogdoad is just a name for eight deities, we don't have to use it.

What do you think about the idea of a fifth secret Center? The Topography Parallax or the Topography Parallel Center?

I, myself, had this idea as well. I think it's safe to say we are totally doing this. For one thing, it'll give us something to build up to and reveal later on. It always helps to give ourselves new plot elements for the future so we don't run out and have to resort to filler.

I was thinking, for "Parallax," coming up with something called "The Parallax Experiment." Basically, as the blog progresses and the higher-ups realize that the protagonists are keeping tabs on things with the blog, the higher-ups organize for something big to go down and for both Liquid Len and Doctor Cloud/all three protagonists to blog about it at the same time, giving their own perspectives on things.

The higher-ups would then take note of the differences in perspective and in what each blogger considers noteworthy and then use this to do malevolent things, throwing each blogger off with specialized red herrings that the previous testing would have proven the bloggers would react to.

Yes, it's complicated, but then again, I think it's just complex enough, and it's in keeping with the literal definition of a parallax. Plus, real companies and organizations perform seemingly-arbitrary experiments like this when it'll give secret benefits to the right people.

As for the fifth Genera, I had the idea of "Topography Genera Center Center," in keeping with North/South/East/West. But that's stupid. xD I love the idea, but I want to keep brainstorming names.

We could call it the "Central Topography Genera Center." Or the "Topography Genera Epicenter."

We could even call it the Topography Genera Center Central. Really, these are all the official names, and they're not meant to catch on. The nicknames like "The Glass Prison" and "The Fifth Genera," now those will catch on.

..the Chromatic Genera. Perfect Genera. Both musical names, technically.

But I'm not entirely sure about "The Glass Prison." The name of the song was referring to being an alcoholic, being trapped in a metaphorical prison and having everyone be able to see you from outside with no feasible way for you to leave. Like a zoo, almost, though with more focus on the tragedy of being trapped and no one being able to help you. I don't think that would apply to the secret conspiracy of higher-ups.

Maybe!

Okay, got another voice actor. Allanbag has a great voice. I need to come up with his character! xD

Do you have Cloud's supervisor? 'Cause I was thinking of someone named Doctor White (White Walls).

I was thinking of using "John Pebble," but "Doctor White" sounds awesome, too. Or perhaps, since "White" is a classification, "Doctor Walls"?

I think I like Doctor Walls as a name. It makes him sound more secretive - like he puts up walls.

SO LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME'S THE PARALLAX

And I don't mean the fact that "Queen Sea" is a great name for EAT. Which it is, but I've already talked about that in two other threads by now.

You see, the lyrics to The Parallax II: Future Sequence finally came out, continuing and probably concluding the adventures of the protagonists of earlier songs "Swim to the Moon" and "Lost Perfection." But what blew me away about these lyrics is that they feature a certain antagonist who surfaces in two of the songs. I'll post this excerpt from "Lay Your Ghosts to Rest" for you:

QUOTE
[Folder 502:]
The precaution documents
The failsafe way back "home".
Should I end it right here and now?
That would be far too selfish
I shall end what I've begun
The creation of more
More of us
The skin and bones of destruction
An army of weak souls
Weak minds
Weak life

(Written in a language I can understand. My brilliance seems questioned with these instructions. Fairly obvious for precaution documents I suppose. The "Night Owls" always send me back. Seems to be in their DNA)

FUCKING.
NIGHT OWLS.
NIGHT OWLS.
Y'KNOW WHAT'S REALLY FUNNY? IT SEEMS LIKE BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME TURNED INTO THE SUNSETTERS, BECAUSE THE PARALLAX SEEMS TO BE SUGGESTING THAT THEIR ENTIRE DISCOGRAPHY IS JUST ONE BIG MYTHOS OF CREEPYPASTA. I CAN'T EVEN COUNT HOW MANY PLOT POINTS AND MOTIFS FROM EARLIER SONGS I'VE SPOTTED IN THIS ALBUM. BUT NOW THERE'S THE FUCKING NIGHT OWLS TOO. "FOSSIL GENERA" WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SONGS, MAN. That should be obvious, considering I took a lot of its lyrics for Topography Genera's motifs.

..and for reference, I'm posting these lyric excerpts here because posting "Fossil Genera's" seemed to be good inspiration earlier, so.. let's see what further Night Owls prompt.

Because the majority of the last song ("Silent Flight Parliament") talks about them, I'll just post the lyrics to the whole song.

QUOTE
[Prospect 2:]
I know what I must do
I'm coming home

Strigiformes:
Fixed socket threat
Binocular vision
I see all
I hear all
Superior intellect
I'm the night owl
Built by the alien gods
A necessity to the existence of all life
Fixed socket threat
Binocular vision.
I see all
I hear all
I'm the night owl

I return in the day but you won't ever see me
Only my eyes
The blaring yellow sphere
A sharp distortion
The TV screen you stare at night after night
Over and over

You are staring into me
Cut the wires and cut your ties
You aren't what you think
An experiment
They will send us to warn, but that's part of the game as well
Fucking weaklings

[Prospect 2:]
I still know what my mind tells you to do
Cut out pieces to form new

Am I me?
What is he?

It's come to the point of opening the box
Carved in the side are the words: Property of the Night Owls.
Smash to unlock the desperate measures.

Am I me?
What is he?

He is found and I will drag him to his end
It's not selfish if it's what's right
He knows I'm looking for him
This thievery is for the bettering of all humankind
So it seems

Creep in
Before the rise of the sun
They are sleeping
Holding each other like it's the last...
And it is
Open the valve
Fill the room
Say goodbye to everything

Am I me?

Strigiformes:
Seek the day
Never again
Weightless in a sea of space

[Prospect 1:]
Eyes open to the sound of laughter
Like a mighty God casting his spells on the worlds below
The man is me

Jet propulsion disengage
Dancing towards our future
A future of nothing
A future towards nothing
Goodbye to everything

Now, there's a chance these lyrics might be off or something, since the album barely came out a couple days ago and I just took them off a website. And no, I can't tell you what the hell the context of this is in the greater story, because I still don't actually know; this band's lyrics get so cryptic. Though I can at least say that the Prospects are trying to cure humanity of its negative traits before Prospect #1's world is ended. Because those same traits are what caused Prospect #2's world to end, like, five albums ago.

BUT YES. I'm sorry, I'm just really freaking excited because Between the Buried and Me refuses to stop making me fall deeper in love with them. >W< This story is gonna keep me inspired for so long. And the moment I saw the freaking Night Owls in the lyrics, man, I fdsjfadsjifadji
I SERIOUSLY COULD NEVER HAVE GUESSED THEY'D CONNECT THEIR SONGS LIKE THIS
I AM SO HAPPY

..but yes. Yes. Hello. More on topic.
Actually, since this topic is just about me giving the context to prog so you can help me come up with relevant ideas for Genera, I guess this is almost on-topic! One of these days, I'll make a very large post filled with as much context as I can give. To everything. That day will probably be near the end of Rapture.

BUT ACTUALLY ON-TOPIC: "Strigiformes." That could be a name for Camper, if hinting they're actually owls isn't too stupid an idea. xD The idea of a box labelled "Property of the Night Owls" containing a human being sounds pretty damn dystopian too.

OH GOD NOW I WANT TO MAKE A BLOG CALLED PROPERTY OF THE NIGHT OWLS

I'm gonna stop babbling now.
