> Go say hi to Atropos and whoever else may be around.
You walk inside the clinic. Atropos looks up and smiles at you. She looks to have been painstakingly re-arranging the contents of her desk.
"Hello, Typhon, how's your day been?" She says to you in sign language. You've all been learning it in the past few years. It makes talking with her a lot easier.
"Boring as hell." You reply. "How about you?"
She gestures to her meticulously organized desk, and then signs, "But in our fields I guess this is a good thing."
"How's Nemesis doing?" You ask.
"She's fine." She signs. "As far as I can tell, the baby as healthy as a baby should be."
"That's good...I guess a viable gene combination finally got through?"
She nods. "That's my theory, anyway. The Fever kills any embryo that doesn't get the immune genes. Or however it works."
"Well, at least the edict that couples who want kids should work at it as hard as possible was well-received." You reply with a smirk. "Anyway, I'm going to go see how she's doing, maybe make the rounds."
"She was saying something about hitting the market." Atropos signs. "She may still be there."
"Thanks. Hope you stay bored."
You're standing outside the old annex building. A couple of people passing pay stop and whisper and bow reverently as you exit.
Do you want to try her house, or do you want to see if she's still at the market?
It always feels like more people live here than they do. The current population is about two hundred. Echinda tells you that this is a little less than half of the population of North America.
More find their way here every month, and for the most part, you're glad to have them.
You reach the small house she and Charon have picked out and knock on the door. After a few moment, Nemesis opens it, a big smile on her face. She's about seven months along and definitely showing. You know for a fact that if he were here Charon would be grumbling about her standing at all.
"Typhon, sweetie, good to see ya. What can I do for you?"
"Just coming to check on you and the baby, see how things were going."
"Just fine. She's starting to get a little rowdy, but given her parents, I guess I shoulda seen that comin'."
You laugh, and she invites you in for some lemonade. You are so, so glad Demeter moved to town. You missed lemons so goddamn much.
"So, you two have a date set yet?" She asks with a smirk. You blush a bit.
"Naw, we'll probably just end up doing it one day. Though she'll probably have already written the vows for me, just in case." You reply.
"Well, everyone'll love it. We could use another big party. Haven't had one since Alecto's sixteenth."
You smirk. "Yeah, though that one could've gone better. That girl does not take surprise well."
She laughs, and you have some more small talk before she starts getting tired, and you decide to head on your way.
> Stall. Stall like freakin' crazy until we can at least get out heart rate at a normal speed.
You've already stalled so much. You've basically been stalling ever since she saved you, like an angel. You'll never forget that day.
You'll also never forget the day your pushed her into a pit and then she saved the world.
Okay. You're a bit calmer now of god what if Hippolyta kills you. She might literally kill you for this. You know things with her and Theseus have been rocky lately, and a part of you is hoping to take advantage of that but she's awfully jealous and protective and have you SEEN what she can do with a sword?
Alright. Calm down a bit. You're calmer. You can do this.
> Question our sanity - the Hippolyta-murdering-us thing is a valid concern.
Oh god, and she'd probably do it without realizing it. She can get freaking scary sometimes.
You're so wrapped up in this line of thought that you jump when someone taps you on the shoulder. You turn and see a young woman, probably Indian in descent, with long black hair and yellow-brown eyes, wearing what looks to be a short skirt and a tank top. Her knees are bloody and she looks exhausted.
With her is a young white male. His clothing is in tatters and he is covered in scorch marks. He has dark hair and blue eyes.
"Is...is this where Typhon is?" She asks, a bit breathless.
"Something...you wouldn't believe me if I told you. No one ever believes me. But...something really bad happened. To the town where we live. Lived. We're....we're..." She starts to cry now, sobbing heavily. The boy holds her gently, and she begins sobbing into his chest, including what appears to be a second degree burn. He grimaces, but says nothing, just strokes her hair gently.
